Title: Winter Solstice
Media: Acrylic, interference film and string on canvas
Dimensions: 40"x60"
Finish Date: December, 2005
Commentary:

Moving from a cube to a rectangular solid, I wanted to utilize the characteristics of interference pigments on a white ground. Here, the space and the top and side of the solid exhibit the subtractive colour characteristic of transparent interference materials. Only when the viewing and illumination angles are right do the primary interference colours flash into existence.

As with The Sum Of All Knowledge, the spatial perception of the solid, and indeed the space itself, is ambiguous. This piece was finished at about the winter solstice, a fitting title.
