This work marks the departure from my early mixed media experimentation associated with American painters and teachers Carole Barnes, Marilyn Hughey Phillis, Virginia Cobb and Ann Baldwin. It has the characteristic geometric interference elements that appear in much of my subsequent work and a small collaged square that was to be a signature element for a time.

The departure was a conscious break with a sense of almost defiance and exaltation.
