Title: The Edge Of Space
Media:
Acrylic, interference film on canvas
Dimensions: 48"x36"x2"
Finish Date: March, 2006
Commentary:

This piece is intended to explore the nature of the interface between the image space and the surrounding environment or external space. As such, the sides of the canvas are used to mark the edge of the surrounding space, making it a 3-dimensional work.

The front surface is the image space. On the lower edge, the colour of the two spaces is identical providing a gradient transition into the image. The rectangular element at the top is a transparent interference film applied over a colour gradient that merges with the external space on the top edge.

The result is an image with internal spatial depth but at the same time, a connection with its exterior (the edges or external space) somewhat reminiscent of a Klein bottle.
