Title: Moment In Blue

Commentary:

Whereas the earlier part of the Moment series relates to the meaning of the word moment as an instance in time, this work references the other meaning, that of a force acting to produce a turning effect.

I had been considering abandoning the chromatic studies I’ve been pursuing to this point, due to apparent lack of critical interest. The decision this work marks, is a continuation of the studies, even if it means larger storage facilities.

In the meantime, the discovery of the kinechromatic work of Abraham Palatnik has given a reference point for this term. The distinguishing feature between Palatnik’s earlier work and my current work is that his was 3-dimensional kinetic sculpture and mine is based on a 2-dimensional surface. In his case, the artwork moves while the observer is stationary. In mine, the observer moves and the artwork remains stationary.

I decided to photograph this work with different light sources placed at different angles. Moving the light source is roughly equivalent to moving the observer. The results give an indication of the dynamic chromatic range of the piece, characteristic of much of my work.
