Title: Confronting the Green
Media: Acrylic, interference film on canvas
Dimensions: 48"x36"
Finish Date: December, 2004
Commentary:

Of the colours I don't like, tints and tones of blue-green are the worst. This is the kind of green that bureaucrats, in the early and mid 20th century, painted hospitals, schools and any other institutional buildings they could get their hands on.

On the other hand, green golds and some yellow greens are among the loveliest of colours. I had avoided green in my work, but here I face it in what is the start of a new series.

In this series, I step away from the problem of figurative content to explore pure shape and colour. Passages appear, change colour and disappear as one moves when viewing them. This series exemplifies the impossibility of recording with a single snapshot, an image that is optically active and dynamic.
